UAA's Best Player Named Monday, August 26th, 2019 So far in his young career, Gustavo Varela has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the USSL Double A in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 22-year-old Chesapeake Continentals center fielder hit at a torrid .448 clip as he collected 13 hits in 29 at-bats, 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 11 runs scored. This season Varela is swinging the bat at a .301 rate with 68 hits in 226 at-bats. To date he has hit 5 home runs, scored 41 runs and driven in 37. |
