Golden Bears Stop Smith at 25
Monday, May 6th, 2030
Jackson HS first baseman Jonathan Smith came into today's game against the Billings West HS Golden Bears on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Golden Bears did their jobs well, beating the Jackson HS Swamp Bats 11-10 and holding Smith hitless to snap his 25-game hitting streak. The 17-year-old first baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-5, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Jonathan did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Swamp Bats manager Ted Armstrong. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 25 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
Smith is swinging at a .403 pace on the year with 4 home runs, 28 RBIs and 24 runs scored. He has played in 33 games.
