Indianapolis HS Snaps Petersen's Streak at 25 Tuesday, April 23rd, 2030 For 25 straight games, Tom Petersen tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 17-year-old Masconomet HS Chieftans third baseman can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Indianapolis HS Rifles. The Rifles held him hitless in 5 at-bats at Rifles Ballpark today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 25. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Chieftans took the win by the score of 5-2. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." This year Petersen has collected a .406 batting average to date with 39 hits in 96 at-bats, 34 RBIs, 6 home runs and scored 22 times. He has played in 22 games. |
