Gómez Batters Auburn for 5 Hits Friday, April 19th, 2030 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Javier Gómez, it came around today. The 19-year-old shortstop scattered hits all over Red McEwen Field to pace the South Florida Bulls to a 11-10 victory over the Auburn Tigers. Auburn skipper Doyle Hollingsworth told reporters in the press room that "Gómez deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Gómez hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Javier Gómez hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Bill Barnes in the 3rd, was hit by a pitch in the 4th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Emílio Jiménez in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Chris Wright in the 9th and walked in the 11th.
