Murray Finally Fails, Streak Ends at 31
Friday, August 9th, 2030
Late in the game, all eyes in Tug McGraw Stadium were on Ed Murray as he stepped into the batter box. His 31-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Murray, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for Murray today, it was that his Tuscaloosa Trout Slayers won the game anyway, stopping the Allentown Hillbillies by the score of 2-0.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Murray told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 31 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
In 33 games this year Murray has posted a .489 average and put up these numbers: 1 home run, 35 RBIs and 40 runs scored.
