Athletics Snap Gaines's Streak at 22 Saturday, September 14th, 2030 It just wasn't Al Gaines's day. The El Dorado Oilers took the 4-0 win today over the Philadelphia Athletics, but the Athletics mound staff did what nobody else could -- they stopped the 22-game hitting streak of Oilers right fielder Al Gaines. "We might have focused a bit too much on stopping Gaines," Philadelphia manager Bobby Jones commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Oilers have other hitters and they did their job today." During the current season Gaines is batting at a .306 clip with 3 home runs and 44 RBIs. He has played in 138 games and scored 76 times. |
