River Sharks Win at Nashville, 5-3
|
Despite a fine performance by second baseman Jesús Cabrera, the Nashville G-Strings suffered a 5-3 loss to the Austin River Sharks. Cabrera went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs. António Rijo was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Paco Gutiérrez picked up the save, his 2nd.
Austin used the timely hitting of Enrico Vargas to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the River Sharks on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Vargas told the Austin Today.
Austin is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 2nd in 6 games.
