Yan Brilliant -- Fires No-Hitter
|
The Scottsdale Scorpions relied on no-hit stuff from starter Miguel Yan to defeat the State College Spikes 5-0 at Dirty South Park today.
"It's quite a thrill," Yan told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the Appalachian League records, he stopped State College cold and hitless, surrendering 1 walk and fanning 16 of the 29 batters he faced.
Scottsdale manager Melvin Patterson was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Yan "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
In 23 starts this year Yan has fashioned a 10-4 record and a 4.06 ERA.
