Machine Subdue Philadelphia, 6-5
|
Chicago withstood an impressive performance by Philadelphia left fielder John Peterson to defeat the Athletics, 6-5, at Old Comiskey Park. Peterson went 2-3 with 2 triples and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. Chicago, at 23-24, occupies last place in the Continental League Eastern Division.
Had Edward Bartlett not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Bartlett hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Machine.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Bartlett, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
