5-Hit Barrage by Herrera
|
A jubilant José Herrera joined the postgame press conference at Bill Robinson Field today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Santa Monica Bruins pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Spokane Trappers right fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-7 hitting performance, which led the Trappers to a 8-7 win.
"He made it look easy," said Mike Fox, manager of the Bruins. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
José Herrera hit a solo-shot off Nariaki Tanaka in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th, walked in the 12th and doubled in the 14th.
Presently Herrera is batting .353 and has collected 23 home runs, 60 RBIs, .423 OBP and scored 58 runs.
