Knights Turn Back Philadelphia, 3-1
|
The Philadelphia Athletics got a superb performance from pitcher Butch Ramey. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Knights won the game, 3-1. In spite of the loss, Ramey was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. New York reliever Henny van der Lack was credited with the win, to go to 5-1. Butch Ramey took the loss for Philadelphia. Sancho Mendoza converted his 24th save in 28 tries.
The Knights got a big at-bat from second baseman Robert Downing. For the game, Downing was 1 for 3. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 124th hit of the season gave New York a 2-1 lead.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Downing said after the game.
New York has 4 straight wins, Philadelphia 4 straight losses.
