Cards Win in Glorious Fashion
|
The Portland Cards grabbed a 7-6 win over the So Cal Bruins at The Kallipolis. Portland third baseman Aaron Scott went 3 for 4 with 3 singles to earn player of the game honors. Jerry Beck picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Marty Burgess was tagged with the loss. The Cards are off to a tough start, getting just their 4th win in 14 games.
Carlos Sánchez was the walk-off hero for Portland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cards shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring double to send the teams home.
In postgame comments to the Portland Times, Sánchez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
