Late Rally by Athletics Secures Win
|
Getting a good performance from first baseman Carter Sweet, the Philadelphia Athletics defeated the Orlando Calrissian, 6-5. Sweet went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Athletics. Yu-shu Kong picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-1. Mike Murray was tagged with the loss. Philadelphia, at 70-61, sits in third place in the National League Eastern Division.
Tony Morton's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Mike Murray for a run-scoring single. It put Philadelphia in front, 6-5.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Sweet. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
