Cruz Helps Austin Cruise to 10-3 Win
|
The Austin River Sharks beat the Maui Tropics, 10-3, at Greendale Community Field. Austin first baseman Tony Cruz earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. José Pérez, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 9-9. Austin is now 56-57, while Maui is 51-65.
The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth when Cruz, who is tied for 10th in the CL in extra base hits with 49, hit a run-scoring double. It propelled the River Sharks into the lead, 3-2.
Cruz told a Austin Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
