Stars Shut Out 84s
|
The Greenville 84s got a superb performance from pitcher Darrell Harding, but the Springfield Stars still won the game, 3-0. Harding was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Claudio Martínez got the win, improving to 15-1. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and no runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. José Valdéz was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 31 of 34 save opportunities.
Had Juan Carlos Rodríguez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Rodríguez hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 3-0, in favor of the Stars.
"We'll savor this win," Rodríguez told the Springfield Bulletin, "then get ready for the next game."
Springfield goes to 74-28. The win puts them 20˝ games up in their division.
