The Kenilworth Aces started the League Championship in style today, winning on the road against the So Cal Bruins at Jersey West at Staples Field by a score of 7-2 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Aces right-hander Walt Burton was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball.
Barrett Waters, who is a three-time All-Star, chipped in for Kenilworth with a 2-run home run in the top of the third. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI.
"Hopefully history will remember the 2030 Kenilworth Aces as a group of guys who played their hardest and had each other's backs," Burton told reporters.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Jersey West at Staples Field. The scheduled starters for the game are José Martínez for the Kenilworth Aces and Won-min Im for the the So Cal Bruins.
