Great Effort by Alou Wasted in 6-5 Tropics Loss
The So Cal Bruins overcame a good performance by Maui left fielder Luis Alou to knock off Maui, 6-5, at Jersey West at Staples Field. Alou was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Marty Burgess converted his 13th save in 21 tries. So Cal improves to 56-36 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.

The Bruins got a big at-bat from second baseman Brent Alonzo. For the game, Alonzo went 1 for 4. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 85th hit of the season gave So Cal a 6-5 lead.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said So Cal manager Jorge Rivera.
