Sugahara 3-4, Leads Rebels to Win
|
The Boston Rebels downed the Philadelphia Athletics, 9-5, at Edmund Fitzgerald Field. The Rebels were led by Yaichiro Sugahara, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Nathan Walters was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. With the win, Boston goes to 72-82, while the Athletics fall to 80-75.
Sugahara contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Boston in the top of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Sugahara took a sinker from Gianluigi Ciottone and stroked the home run to left-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Rebels to leap in front, 2-1.
Sugahara told a Boston Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
