Herrera Bashes 5 Base Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Alfredo Herrera, it came around today.
The 20-year-old right fielder scattered hits all over Husky Ballpark to pace the Missouri Tigers to a 8-2 victory over the Washington Huskies.
Washington skipper Vic Rainville told reporters in the press room that "Herrera deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Herrera hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Alfredo Herrera doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
A look at his current stats shows Herrera with a .398 average, 8 home runs, 32 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He has played in 30 games.
