Knights Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The New York Knights beat the Vista Panthers, 5-2, at Stone Brewery Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Willie Wallace, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-5 with a triple, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. New York reliever Henny van der Lack picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Dillon Nelson was saddled with the loss. Sancho Mendoza earned the save for New York, his 1st of the year.
Wallace had a game-changing triple in the top of the seventh. On a 3-1 fastball from Dillon Nelson, he banged a bases-clearing triple to left, giving the Knights a 5-2 lead. It was the 1st triple of the year for Wallace.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Wallace, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The Panthers, now 4-2, have been pitiful so far.
