The Irvine Gang Green got a superb performance from catcher Nick Cox. Still, it wasn't enough to beat So Cal. The Bruins won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Cox was named the player of the game. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Riley Johnston was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, with 3 walks and no strikeouts. César Menéndez converted his 10th save in 10 tries.
Jeff Carter had a clutch at-bat with no one out in the top of the sixth for the Bruins. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and So Cal trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run double.
"Both teams played hard," said So Cal manager Jorge Rivera.
So Cal goes to 41-27. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
