| Evans Puts Spell on Watertown Saturday, September 15th, 2029 William Evans of the Plymouth Cocks was on top of his game today.
The 21-year-old tantalized the Watertown Headhunters with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 3-0 shutout.
"He had the changeup working," Watertown manager Jordan Tanner said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Plymouth hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Evans told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year Evans has no saves, totaled 81.1 innings, allowed 62 base hits and fashioned a 2.55 ERA while racking up 58 strikeouts and a record of 7 wins and 3 losses.
