| Sawyer Batters Oceanside Big Time Wednesday, July 11th, 2029 After his 5-hit effort at Ballpark of Matane was tarnished by Monroe's 12-11 loss to the Oceanside Swamp Foxes, second baseman Dave Sawyer told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."
He didn't get the win, but the 22-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Swamp Foxes.
"His swing is getting there," said Mallards skipper Jacob Fuller after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Dave did that to perfection today and we wasted it."
Dave Sawyer singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off César García in the 7th, walked in the 9th, singled in the 10th and grounded out in the 12th.
