The 21-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-6 and led the Red Storm to a 11-7 triumph over Nebraska.
"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Thurman said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."
