Before the game, Juan Ortíz said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at The Cougar Den, the Cougars pitcher whitewashed the Salem Sledgehammers 2-0.

"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Ortíz said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my cutter even when I was behind in the count."

The Jasper starter held Salem scoreless, giving up 2 hits while registering 10 strikeouts and issuing 4 walks.

"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Sledgehammers manager Greg O'Day said in his postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
