The Irvine Gang Green defeated the San Francisco Bandits, 5-4, in National League action at Bay View Park, with Irvine pitcher Millard Curtis named player of the game. Raúl Saltines converted his 16th save in 17 tries. Irvine is now 38-17, 2 games up in the National League Western Division.
Don Hooper aided the Irvine cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth. For the game, the shortstop was 2 for 3 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Curtis said.
