Beavers Rally For Late Win Over Tropics
|
The Maui Tropics got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Floyd, but the Baffin Island Beavers still won the game, 5-2. Floyd was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball. Baffin Island reliever Jaime Guzmán picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Archie Summers was saddled with the loss. The Beavers bumped their record to 27-18 with this latest triumph.
Had Eric Wheeler not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Wheeler hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 5-2, in favor of the Beavers.
"Enjoyed this one," Wheeler told the Baffin Island Daily. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
