Marshals Come Back Late, Nip Bandits
|
The San Francisco Bandits got a superb performance from pitcher Mitsunari Taguchi, but the Houston Marshals still won the game, 5-4. Taguchi was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Houston reliever Edgardo Guzmán was credited with the win, to go to 3-2. Kunihiko Daikawa took the loss for San Francisco. Houston is now riding a 3-game win streak.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when center fielder Guy Moss, who leads the CL in stolen bases with 20, hit a single. The Marshals went on to win.
In postgame comments to the Houston Chronicle, Moss said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
