Lucchi Tosses Shutout Against Roughnecks
|
The BlackIron Dragons did little to support starter Júlio Lucchi against the Beaumont Roughnecks, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Roughnecks, striking out 10 and surrendering 4 hits. The performance from Lucchi allowed BlackIron to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said 'Júlio, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Lucchi told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
This year Lucchi has a 7-3 mark in 11 starts with a 2.62 ERA. He has given up 53 hits in 75.2 innings, struck out 83 and issued 28 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .199 batting average against him.
