Bruins Continue Skid Thanks to Fernández, Athletics
|
Philadelphia and So Cal duked it out at Jersey West at Staples Field and the Athletics came out victorious.
The Philadelphia Athletics bested the So Cal Bruins, 8-5, at Jersey West at Staples Field. Robinson Fernández was named player of the game. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. George Nelson was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Fernández had a big at-bat with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the second inning, when he hit a 2-run single. The Athletics went on to win.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Fernández told the Philadelphia Gazette. "You win just by scoring more runs."
So Cal's current losing streak is now 6 games.
