Beavers Slip Past Orlando, 3-2
|
Baffin Island right-hander Luis Vargas made an effective start against the Orlando Calrissian at Beaver Dam, leading his team to a 3-2 win. Baffin Island reliever Tony Rocha got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Will Huggins was tagged with the loss. Brent Miller earned the save for Baffin Island, his 3rd.
César Valentín was 2-3 with 2 singles for Baffin Island. The 29-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Will Huggins. It was his 7th RBI of the season.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Valentín.
The win brings the Beavers to 10-8, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
