Kings Get Close Win Over Bellas | Pocatello got a terrific performance from pitcher Armando Pérez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Kings. Kansas City won the Connie Mack Stadium contest, 3-1. Pérez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Kansas City reliever Manuel Parra got the win, raising his record to 4-3. Adrián Martínez was tagged with the loss. Nick Parks earned his 31st save in 36 chances.
Had Toshimichi Kono not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kono hit a 2-run triple. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Kings.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Kono. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The Kings bumped their record to 76-65 with this latest triumph.
