Padilla Excels in Philadelphia Win | Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Héctor Padilla, the Philadelphia Athletics defeated the New York Knights, 10-7. Padilla went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Athletics. Philadelphia reliever Ricardo Pérez picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Sancho Mendoza shouldered the loss. The 4th-place Athletics now have a win-loss record of 45-80.
Had Eric Neal not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Neal hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Athletics.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Neal.
