Browns Turn Back Chicago, 1-0 | The St. Louis Browns got a strong performance from pitcher Darren Blackwell, who stymied the Chicago offense en route to a 1-0 win at Gateway Stadium. The Browns bumped their record to 59-52 with this latest triumph.
St. Louis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, first baseman Junior Coates hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"I like what I saw today," said St. Louis manager Jeff Porter, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
