Victory Pushes Bruins Record to 8-3
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the So Cal Bruins and Portland Cards came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Portland center fielder António Zúñiga was sensational. He was 1-1 with a home run and 4 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. So Cal beat the Cards, 8-6. Zúñiga was named the player of the game despite the loss. Dionisio Penni got the win, improving to 3-0. He worked 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2.
José Antonio Santiago hit a run-scoring triple off Manuel Fuentes in the top of the first, which put the Bruins in front, 1-0. Santiago had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.
"We maximized our offense today," said So Cal skipper Jorge Rivera. "That makes everyone's life easier."
So Cal is off to a hot start at 8-3.
