| League Championship Game 1 Victory for Smeddon\n and Kenilworth | The Kenilworth Aces started the League Championship in style today, downing the visiting Baffin Island Beavers at Play Rocks Field by a score of 5-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Aces left-hander Dave Smeddon was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball.
Smeddon, the Kenilworth left-hander, went 8.2 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits. He collected 9 strikeouts.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Kenilworth manager Ismael Martínez told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
