| Machine Edge Browns, 4-3 | The Machine had to overcome a fine effort from St. Louis pitcher Scott Walker to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Old Comiskey Park. Walker went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Chicago starter Horace Jacobs was credited with the win after throwing 114 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 5-5. Víctor Reyes got the save, his 21st in 25 chances.
The Machine got a big at-bat from left fielder José Alomar. For the game, Alomar was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Chicago a 4-3 lead.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Alomar told the Chicago Times. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
Chicago is now 33-58, St. Louis 48-44.
