Rebels Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Athletics | Fans who came to Edmund Fitzgerald Field watched the Boston Rebels and the Philadelphia Athletics fight to the finish.
The Boston Rebels overcame a good performance by Philadelphia designated hitter Arturo Molina to knock off Philadelphia, 6-5, at Edmund Fitzgerald Field. Molina went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Tomás Molina got the save, his 6th in 9 chances.
Had Pat Zimmerman not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Zimmerman hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Rebels.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Zimmerman told the Boston Daily News. "You win just by scoring more runs."
With the win over Philadelphia, the Rebels improved to 33-60.
