| Cards Fall Short at Vista | Vista beat Portland at Stone Brewery Stadium, eking out a 3-2 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Randy Mailman, who earned player of the game honors. David Simpson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 24 save opportunities. The second-place Cards have dropped 5 straight games.
Vista took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With no one out, catcher Bonifacio Torres hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Vista manager Tim Fulgham. "Our pregame was pretty good."
