| Stars Win at Philadelphia, 6-1 | Another day, another victory for the red-hot Springfield Stars.
The Springfield Stars topped the Philadelphia Athletics, 6-1, in Continental League action at Edmund Fitzgerald Field. The player of the game was Springfield pitcher and Grand Prairie, Texas native Claudio Martínez. Martínez picked up the win for Springfield, going 7.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 12-1.
In the top of the ninth inning, center fielder Calvin Bennett came through big-time for the Stars. With Springfield leading 2-0, he belted a 3-run home run.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Bennett. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Springfield is now 55-21, 12˝ games up in the Continental League Central Division.
