| 5 Straight Wins for Cards | Portland beat Pocatello at Connie Mack Stadium, escaping with a 3-2 win. The win in large part was due to designated hitter Jeff Daniels, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. The second-place Cards have won 5 consecutive games.
Mario Méndez aided the Portland cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth. For the game, the catcher went 2 for 3 with a double.
"I believe in our guys," said Portland skipper Gabriel Ontiveros. "I like the energy they're playing with."
