Torchmen Chill Barnes's Hot Streak
Friday, April 7th, 2028
Grand Rapids HS second baseman Bob Barnes came into today's game against the Tacoma HS Torchmen on a hot streak. When it was over, the Torchmen did their job very well. They beat the Grand Rapids HS Summit 3-2 and cooled him off at the same time. Tacoma HS stopped Barnes without a hit and his 20-game hitting streak came to an end.
The 17-year-old Barnes only had a few words to say after the game, "I had a chance to do it and I came up short."
His manager commented, "What Bob did was exciting and quite an achievement. It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 20 games in a row. I'm really proud of him. And I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
This season Barnes has hit at a .522 clip and produced 6 RBI, 1 home run and 4 runs.
