Campbell Socks it to Bearcats, Cracks 5 Hits
Monday, May 24th, 2027
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Ryan Campbell, it came around today.
The 19-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over Marge Schott Stadium to pace the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 10-0 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Cincinnati skipper Ángel Tovar told reporters in the press room that "Campbell deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Campbell hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Ryan Campbell singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Harry Hopkins in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Cole Snelson in the 9th.
In this current campaign Campbell is hitting at a .256 clip with 3 home runs and 17 RBIs.
