5 Hits for Cardinal Bird
Wednesday, April 28th, 2027
The Stanford Cardinal stopped the North Carolina Tar Heels by a score of 17-3 at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium today, with the lion's share of the credit going to third baseman Geoffrey Bird. The 22-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Bird said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Bird did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Tar Heels.
"Not much that I can say," offered North Carolina manager Lang Zhou. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Geoffrey Bird singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Gene Johnston in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, walked in a run in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
Bird has collected 20 hits for the Cardinal this year, 3 of them home runs. He has also netted 12 RBIs and scored 22 runs while batting .202.
