Weslaco Gets Rid of Manager Gilbert Wednesday, July 14th, 2027 It came as no surprise to anyone in the press corps: Sam Gilbert was fired today as manager of the Weslaco Chiefs. His feuds with Chiefs players were one of the worst-kept secrets in baseball. Even through the closed doors of the manager's office, reporters often overheard shouting matches between Gilbert and players. Rumors that a recent argument between Gilbert and an unnamed pitcher degenerated into fisticuffs could not be substantiated, but there was no denying the acrimonious atmosphere that had developed in the clubhouse. Team insiders had been saying for weeks that it was only a matter of time before Gilbert would be let go. According to these insiders, the team has a replacement in mind, but will hold off making an official announcement for at least a day. |
