Tuesday, May 4th, 2027
Evans HS Knights left fielder James Bennett put on a dazzling display of power today at Engines Ballpark against the Mountain Pointe HS. In the 6-3 Knights victory Bennett penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Mountain Pointe HS manager Jonathan Kretzer said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 16-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Bennett said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
James Bennett hit a solo-shot off Jim Bridges in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off José Cruz in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off José Cruz in the 8th.
So far this season Bennett has hit .365 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and and scored 40 times.
