Wednesday, April 21st, 2027
It was a good day at Triplets Ballpark. The Overland Park HS Triplets whipped the Huntsville HS Wasps 16-12 and right fielder José Mendoza showed off a hot bat, going 5-for-5 at the plate.
"Some days, lady luck is on your side," Mendoza told BNN reporters after the game.
Triplets manager Joey Stamps told the beat writers otherwise, calling the 16-year-old "focused and patient."
"It's not luck," he said. "He has a solid approach to hitting. José hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have."
José Mendoza singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
In his stats this season, Mendoza has posted a batting average of .237 with 19 hits in 80 at-bats, 1 home run and 7 RBIs. He has also scored 16 runs, walked 12 times and compiled a .358 OBP.
