Butler Gives the Old Heave-Ho to Manager Downing
Friday, June 12th, 2026
You can't fire the players when times get tough. Bob Downing learned that the hard way today as he was dismissed from his managerial position with the Butler Bulldogs.
Citing a need to "shake things up," a team official said it was time to move on.
"We respect what Bob has done for the club and we thank him for his time here, but we just think the future of the Bulldogs needs to be handled by someone else and needs to move in a different direction," said the club's general manager in a prepared statement. For his part, Downing remained upbeat about the decision.
"I know it's a business and sometimes you've just got to make a change," he said. "I want to thank Butler for the opportunity to manage here."
Team officials are expected to announce an interim manager in the next few days.
