Johnston Takes Home PIO Outstanding Pitcher Award

Pioneer League hitters didn't have much of a chance in the 2027 season when the Salem manager wrote "Ken Johnston" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, he held teams in check and usually got a win.
He excelled with a 16-9 mark and 2.36 ERA in 36 starts, tossed 236.1 innings, fanned 325 and held opposing teams to a .191 average.
For his superb season Johnston was today named the PIO Outstanding Pitcher Award winner.
Sloan Sanders of the Chula Vista Tacos finished second in voting, while Rick Hernández of the Chula Vista Tacos finished third.
