Friday, October 15th, 2027
He's only 24 years old, but Pedro Santiago of the Nantucket Orcas has clearly established himself as a star of Appalachian League.
His status grew today as the ace pitcher was named the winner of the 2027 Appalachian League Outstanding Hitter Award.
"I just want to pitch well and win games," he said. "The awards are nice though."
Santiago's award-winning season saw him put up a 23-9 record through 55 starts, throwing 296 innings. He had 349 strikeouts with 57 walks and a 2.68 ERA. Opponents hit only .218 against him during the season.
Thomas Simmons of the State College Spikes finished second in voting, while Ramón Marerro of the Beaverton Bronze Souls finished third.
